Funded 100% through private donations, foundations gifts and grants, Yellowstone Academy is a faith-based, private Christian school exclusively serving low-income children in Houston's inner city. The median annual income of these families is $9600. Seventy-nine percent of these children are from single parent homes; 53% receive public assistance.

Established in August 2002 with 64 three and four year old students in leased facilities, the school plans to expand its program one additional grade level per year through the eighth grade. In February 2006, Yellowstone was fortunate enough to purchase the Douglass Elementary School building in the Third Ward from HISD positioning them on a positive path to fulfilling that goal. Current enrollment is at 160. Projections for the next school year are 192 students through third grade.

Yellowstone's comprehensive approach addresses multi-dimensional challenges of poverty in the lives of children and their families from the platform of a high quality private pre-school through second grade educational institution. Their program, in partnership with the City of Refuge Community Development Center, is designed to provide these children and their families, with the educational, spiritual, social and practical resources they need to succeed in life, and Yellowstone Academy is fully accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. In addition to monetary donations, the school has a number of volunteer opportunities available and needs assistance with food and school supply donations.
